I’m Lucy Hargrave, graphic designer and owner of Lucky and Son Studio.
I have a passion for design strategy and am focussed on producing beautiful work that means something.
With over 12 years of industry experience in corporate branding, packaging and web design, I offer a wealth of knowledge on all fronts of running a successful business, from how to attract your dream clients to how to position your brand for success.
About me
My story.
I opened my own studio in 2020 which seems a little crazy considering the worldwide pandemic, but actually turned out to be such a good decision.
Seeing a lack of creative, female operated, and down-to-earth branding studios on the Gold Coast, I wanted to start a fresh, my own way, and inspire others to do the same.
Hand made for you
My style is loose, playful, creative and unique. I love using hand drawn illustrations, colour, pattern, warmth and occasional humour to bring my designs to life. I am passionate about exploring new creative techniques and mediums and getting off the computer.
Who is this Lucky character then?
Well that’s me, well technically almost me. When I was born my dad was adamant about naming me Lucky, but mum put her foot down and Lucy made it onto my birth certificate. I still get called Lucky by dad though!
My clients value my passionate approach to life and business and I always put in 110% to achieve success.
Working with other passionate small business owners gives me so much pleasure. Creating beautiful and meaningful brands whilst inspiring others is what I love to do.
6 things you may not know about me.

I’m a huge nerd and got an OP 1 in high school and full scholarship to study design at the Queensland College of Art.

I was lucky enough to have a surfing dad who also co-owned a charter boat in the Mentawais, so I learned to surf in Indonesia.

My son Henry was born in 2018 and was a huge motivator to opening my own business. More family time is the best!

My first job in a design studio was as an icecream and FMCG packaging designer and you can still see some of my work for Weis, Queen and Paramalat in the supermarket!

I speak very bad Spanish and have very dodgy knees from climbing volcanoes whilst travelling through Central and South America for 2 years. My favourite countries are Colombia and Guatemala.

If I weren’t a graphic designer, I would be a fine artist like my super talented and beautiful mum, Lyndal!
